THE NEW PARTNERSHIP

I have been based here at Somerset West Golf Club since the 1st of March 2012.  I am still using the name Dynamic Golf and offering the same services as before (go to the service page for list). 

In addition to the list of services, I am running the pro shop and driving range. Visit the Pro Shop's page for information about the shop and range, including special offers etc.

I look forward to meeting all the members of SWGC and being able to eventually putting a name to every face.

Dynamic Golf moving base camp on 1st March 2012

As from the 1st of March 2012. I will be the PGA Professional at Somerset West Golf Club.
There is a fantastic plan to upgrade the course and golf experience in progress. It will be completed over the next 3 to 5 years.

The new driving range facility will be open in March. The practise facility will now have a 7 bay hitting area to the length of over 200m (to be confirmed of actual distance). There will be proper range balls by Srixon which will give you a consistent feel of ball contact when you practise.

Dynamic Golf Restructure

Trying to restructure the Blog a bit to make it easier to navigate, so please be patient whilst I spend hours figuring it out.

Natural movement sequencing in the golf swing

We had some fun putting this video together. My helper (Morne) gave a few dodgy nervous throws when I was demonstrating the baseball hit. I made 2 contact hits out of 5 due to some dodgy pitching.

Updated Results

Congratulations to Andrew Mackie (De Zalze), Ian Kennedy (Steenberg) and Dawie van Wyk (SW Golf Village) for jointly winning the Atlantic Beach Pro Am on Monday 15th August on a score of 2 under par, 70. I was 5 shots further back on 75. I think I am too old to compete on Mondays! The update of the Western Cape Order of Merit (OOM) is listed further on in the site.

PGA workshop

It has been a busy week starting with 2 days of PGA seminars, workshops and AGM.  Some new stuff was learned on fitness for golf presented by Barry Bridges from Cape Town.  I am continuing to learn about the minefield of social media, this was presented by Ben van Rensberg. Ben can be found on his web site http://www.dreamgolfjob.com/   Jeff Clause shared his expertise as Director of Golf at St. Francis Links, on the importance of  PGA golf professionals having a crucial part to play in the running of golf clubs in South Africa in these modern times. He has brought a lot of wisdom and knowledge with him from his PGA background in Texas, USA. Jeff has been in SA now for 20 years and has worked at Fancourt and Pezula before St. Francis.  The last of the workshops I attended was Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) part 2. This is all about the 10 year growth cycle of kids into adulthood and the importance on how they learn and how they should train during this time. If managed well, the potential for a long term future in the sport they choose to speialise in. My thanks goes to PGA professional Martin Briede for presenting this.

The Goose (not Retief)

This is our 13th tee (championship tee) at De Zalze. This mother Egyptian Goose had 7 eggs under her. I only managed to persuade her to move when I took my driver and got within half a meter of her.
The EG is becoming a bit of a pest at golf clubs in general in the Cape. I first played De Zalze in 2004 and only noticed one or two. In the last 2 years I have noticed the numbers have been escalating.
The EG used to be classed as a protected bird, but I heard recently this may be changed to a bird in the pest category. Please correct me if I am wrong! Some of our green keeping staff and members have been trying to help to keep their numbers down by destroying some of the nests. It is important to remember that when you destroy a nest that you should leave one egg. If you destroy the whole clutch, the birds will simply move on to a new nest site an try for a whole new clutch of up to 15. But if you leave one, the birds will continue to look after the individual egg.

Today's Storm

The threat of the storm came today from the west. It came in gaining momentum. Suddenly after 25 minutes of downpour it disappeared eastwards over the mountains.
Thank you Lord for watering our golf course!

Another hick - up!

Just as I was starting to enjoy the flow of making and uploading my golf instruction videos, for all to see (YouTube) some of the main concepts behind my teaching methods, my Panasonic video recorder decided to retire from duty. I have had it since 2003 and it seems when something like this breaks in SA, there are not many businesses that offer a repair service. After asking in the main camera stores around Stellenbosch and Somerset West, there is only one business to go to and it is in the main city of Cape Town.

Thankfully, in the mean time, a good friend of mine and past pupil, David L, is lending me his camera until I get sorted. it is the upgrade from the camera I had and it is a pleasure to use. Baie Dankie David!!

Can anybody out there give me some info on the new cameras today? eg. can the new HD cameras do the slow motion play back without any blurring without jeapordising picture quality in the way that mini DV tape
cameras are able to do?

For some it was fun, some have gone away determined to achieve contact with the ball, and some players surprised themselves with the ease of making good contact with the ball.

Thanks to Dale and Irene for noticing that one of the links to my You Tube video golf tips was not working. Please check again as some upgrades were done. It now works fine from my side. Please let me know of any more faults and advice on how I can run my Blog better.

The Open

It looks like it will be an interesting last days play today at The British Open. I would like to see one of the old guys go on to win, like Clark, Jimenez or even Watson. Having played in The Open at this course in 1993 it has been giving me goose bumps as I watch shots from some of the areas I remember playing from.
I would like to see the wind blow a bit! Yesterday was quite tame compared to what could happen.
